There is a great number of books available and it is often difficult to know what is worth while reading and what is not.
I encourage my patients to read and research as much as possible. Having said that, a lot of books that are readily available in bookshops, often contain information that can be out of the date. Medical knowledge changes very quickly, and it can be difficult for the authors and editors to keep up with this change.
Internet based sources are obviously a lot easier to keep up to date. There are some fantastic websites out there, but at the same time a lot of information provided can be unverified and of poor quality.
Here are a couple of books I would like to recommend, quite a few of my patients have read them and found them very helpful and often entertaining.
“Juju Sundin’s Birth Skills with Sarah Murdoch”
Written by a leading obstetric physiotherapist Juju Sundin, with Sarah Murdoch providing mother’s perspective, this book concentrates on helping you and your partner manage the pain of childbirth through a variety of techniques.
“Cheers to Childbirth” by Lucy Perry
Something for expectant fathers, who are often overlooked when it comes to birth preparation. It features some of Australia’s best-known fathers and their birth stories.
“ Up the Duff “ by Kaz Cooke
Australia’s most loved and best selling pregnancy book.
